Eagles wallop Gaylesville


The Appalachian Eagles delighted a big homecoming crowd with a 35-6 victory over Gaylesville last Friday at James E. Carr Stadium.

The Eagles got a big night from senior quarterback Jasper Hutchens, who accounted for four of the team’s five touchdowns. He completed 15 of 19 passing for 200 yards and two touchdowns and added 53 yards and two scores on the ground on just seven carries.

Devin Payne added 52 yards on 11 carries and Paco Jiles made his only carry count as he had a 28-yard scoring run.

Noah Harris had six catches for 95 yards while Peyton Dean caught six passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. Payne had three receptions for 55 yards.

Jonathon Garcia had 14 tackles and Isaac Duarte had 12 tackles to lead the Eagle defense. Daniel Alarcon had 10 tackles and Zach Walling added six stops. Colton Davis added a sack.

Appalachian (2-4, 0-3 in 1A Region 4) jumps back into region play this Friday night at Donoho (1-4, 0-2).
