Dr. Bice visits Cleveland Elementary

During their second-annual Leadership Day last Friday, Cleveland Elementary students welcomed a special guest – State Supt. Dr. Tommy Bice. ‘The purpose of Leadership Day is to showcase our school,’ said Cleveland Elementary principal Randy Walker. ‘We invite central office employees, county officials, and others throughout the community to walk through our schools and see what’s happening in our classrooms. When people want to know about our school, we ask them to ask our students that same question. By the end of the day, Dr. Bice was blown away by our students.’ Leadership Day began last year after Cleveland Elementary implemented ‘Leader in Me,’ a process which revolves around seven key habits to become better leaders featured in Stephen Covey’s book, ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.’ The habits include – be proactive; begin with the end in mind; put first things first; think win-win; seek first to understand, then to be understood; synergize; and sharpen the saw. – Nicole Singleton
