Disaster Recovery Center set up at Oneonta Depot

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have opened a Disaster Recovery Center in response to last month’s tornado damage.

The center is located on Ala 75 at the Oneonta Depot in the Oneonta Recreation Park at the Blount County- Oneonta Chamber of Commerce. The center will be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

In a press released issued by FEMA, those affected were asked to register with FEMA before going to the center by applying online at DisasterAssistance.gov, via smartphone at m.fema.gov, or by phone at 800-621-3362.

In addition to AEMA and FEMA specialists on hand at the center, the Small Business Administration (SBA) is also available to answer questions.

The center can help with individual disaster-related needs, submitting any additional documentation needed, such as utility bills or letters from insurance companies or contractor estimates, finding out the status of an application, obtaining information about different types of state and federal assistance, getting help from SBA specialists for low-interest disaster loan applications for homeowners, renters, and business owners, and receiving referrals to the American Red Cross and other voluntary organizations to help with immediate needs.
