DELIBERATION BEGINS…

Merit board testimony concludes in Mitchell case

Testimony before the merit board in the hearing on the firing of former county administrator Ralph Mitchell concluded last Friday afternoon, with Probate Judge Chris Green as the final witness. Blount County Merit Board chairman Bill Newman said the board will meet again tomorrow ( Thursday) to begin deliberation.

The timing of a decision will depend on the progress the four board members are able to make toward consensus on a ruling. One member of the five-member board recused himself as a friend of Mitchell before the hearings began. The merit board has 10 days following the last day of the hearing to render a ruling on its findings.
