For the second week in a row, the Locust Fork Hornets put up big numbers on offense. Unfortunately, for the second week in a row it wasn’t near enough as the Alexandria Valley Cubs rolled up more than 500 rushing yards in a 74-37 win last Thursday night at Lou Scales Stadium.
It was probably one of the strangest games that Hornet and Valley Cub fans had ever seen.
Locust Fork never attempted a running play – at least Hornet quarterback Geoffrey Bramblett never handed the ball to a back – while Alexandria did not attempt a single pass.
Alexandria scored on runs of 12, 29, 1, and 62 yards in the first quarter while Locust Fork got a 69-yard touchdown pass from Bramblett to Clay Smith to trail 27-7 after one quarter.
Locust Fork got a 31-yard field goal by Kyle Hornbuckle and a 28-yard touchdown run by Bramblett in the second quarter but went to the half down 40-17.
Bramblett added touchdown runs of 8 and 51 yards and a 45-yard pass to Logan Short in the second half but it wasn’t near enough.
Bramblett completed 27 of 44 through the air for 393 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Despite being sacked nine times for 50 yards in losses, he scrambled for 130 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.
Locust Fork (1-7, 0-6 in 4A Region 6) hosts Springville (1-7, 0-6) this week while Alexandria (5-3, 4-2) travels to St. Clair County (3-5, 3-3).
