COVID-19 forces Hayden High and Middle schools to move to remote learning, Susan Moore High School remote only today

Around 3 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, the Blount County Board of Education announced, “In an effort to control the spread of COVID-19 and to provide recovery and quarantine time to students, Hayden Middle School and Hayden High School will transition to remote learning,” today, Nov. 6. 

“All faculty and staff will work on a regular schedule to support our students online,” the statement said. Students will resume in-person instruction on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Students at Hayden Primary and Hayden Elementary will continue with regular, in-person classes. The morning bus schedule will run 20 to 25 minutes later than normal during this time. Afternoon bus schedule will remain the same. 

Meal pick-up service for students at both HMS and HHS will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 9, Nov. 16, Nov. 18, and Nov. 30.  All students are eligible to pick up meals.

According to the statement, “The HHS football team will play at Guntersville… in the State Playoffs. The band and cheerleaders will travel to support the team. Students who have been quarantined should not attend the game. All wrestling and basketball practices have been cancelled for this week.”

Later in the evening, the BCBOE made another announcement, this one in regards to Susan Moore High School. “Due to some positive cases of COVID-19 that we learned about late this afternoon, Susan Moore High School will be closed to students… Friday, Nov. 6.  Faculty and staff should report to work on a normal schedule.  In response, all close contacts will be notified and we will deep clean and sanitize the building. 

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause our parents at this late time.  The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our top priority.”

Susan Moore Elementary School will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow and buses will run at the regular time. 

HMS and HHS will have meal pick-up service from 8:30-9:30 A.M.  on the following days: November 9th, 16th, 18th and 30th.  All students are eligible to pick up meals.
