Covered Bridge royalty

Covered Bridge Preliminary pageant winners face the music, the flowers, and the photographer following the conclusion of the 2015 event on Oct. 19. From the left, MerrillAnn Culverhouse of Opp, Miss Covered Bridge Outstanding Teen 2015, and Callie Walker of Birmingham, Miss Covered Bridge 2015. Tapdancer Merrill-Ann is a triple-threat competitor who also leads cheers and plays forward on the Opp Middle School basketball team. Also a quick change artist as she dons cheerleader duds for the boy’s seventh grade team, does a quick change into her basketball uniform for the girl’s game, then switches back to cheer for the boy’s eighth grade team. Whew! Callie’s pedigree qualifies her as true pageant royalty: her mother (then Angela Tower) was the 1985 Miss Alabama and Miss America fourth runner up and her sister is a former Miss Alabama teen winner and national teen runner-up. Busy family. At 17, this was Callie’s first Miss Alabama preliminary event. Riding a dynamic ballet routine, she’s now one-for-one, heading into the 2015 Miss Alabama Pageant. The Covered Bridge Pageant this year boasted both Miss Alabama Caitlin Brunnell as emcee and Miss Teen Alabama Morgan Green as entertainer. The dualevent pageant set records with 28 contestants and more than 200 in attendance. Long-time pageant director is Jayne Posey, who encourages local pageant entrants.
