Changes to courthouse security arrangements will begin within two weeks, as all incoming members of the public will be routed temporarily to one of two doors: the door at the back parking area with the handicap ramp and the side door facing 3rd Street North and Compass Bank.
Phase one of the transition also involves installation of electric strike locks at entrances and on doors within the building to limit access to doors manned with security officers. Changes are being made to improve the security of courthouse and court system employees.
Phase two will involve construction of a new handicap ramp at the front entrance to the building facing Ala 75, installation of metal detectors at that entrance, and other modifications inside the building. Phase two will begin within a year, perhaps much sooner, based on budget and other considerations. At its completion, all traffic will be permanently limited to a specified entrance.
Updates on specific timing of changes will be provided as information becomes available. The public’s cooperation is requested and appreciated.
