Court still in session


As county teams prepare for the Blount County Basketball Tournament, which begins Monday, Jan. 20, Susan Moore and Locust Fork varsity girls and Oneonta varsity boys brought home wins last week.

Friday, Jan. 3
at J.B. Pennington
Varsity boys
Oneonta 56, J.B. Pennington 21

The Oneonta Redskins varsity boys took on the J.B. Pennington Tigers winning by a score of 56-21.

Eric Moore scored 16 points, as well as five rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Jacob Green added 7 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Daniel McCary put up 7 points and five rebounds.

Monday, Jan. 6

Locust Fork 50, J.B. Pennington 16

The Locust Fork Lady Hornets took an early 24-7 lead over the J.B. Pennington Lady Tigers at the end of one half. The momentum continued in the Lady Hornets’ favor as they outscored the Tigers 26-9 in the second half bringing the final score to 50-16 and an easy victory for the Lady Hornets.

Faith Evans put up 18 points, nine rebounds, and an assist. Shelly Bailey added 15 points, one rebound, seven assists, and three steals. Madison Roy had 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal in the win.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

Susan Moore 78, Glencoe 54

The Lady Bulldogs claimed an easy 78-54 victory over the Glencoe Lady Yellowjackets.

Hallie Holmes sank five three pointers and scored 27 total points for the Lady Bulldogs. Madison Lipscomb went 9-for-10 from the free throw line while putting up 13 total points. Hannah Lauderdale added 10 points in the victory.

Oneonta 67, Ashville 21

The Oneonta Redskins (13-5) took to the floor against the Ashville Bulldogs claiming an easy 67- 21 victory.

Eli Buse put up 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Wil Robertson added 10 points, two rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Deondre Elliot got 11 points, a rebound, four assists, and two steals. Eric Moore had 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Susan Moore 66, Hanceville 28

The Lady Bulldogs made quick work of the Hanceville Lady Bulldogs winning by a score of 66- 28.

Cali Smallwood hit five three pointers and scored 19 total points while grabbing six rebounds. Morgan Holland put up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Holmes added 11 points.

Lauderdale was recognized after the game for scoring 1,000 career points. She scored her 1,000th point on Jan. 4 against Locust Fork. (See photo on page A7.)
