Both county and city school districts received Legislative education grant checks last week from District 34 Rep. David Standridge. Standridge presented a $5,000 check (top) to Oneonta City Schools Superintendent Daniel Smith (accompanied by a cheering section of school employees, board member, city councilman, teachers and administrators) and a $22,500 check (bottom) to Blount County Schools Superintendent Rodney Green. Amounts are determined by district enrollment.
The money is used by both systems to fund special projects such as STEAM labs and other initiatives, often in the arts, music, or classroom activities. Over the years, superintendents say they have distributed legislative funds to every school in their districts.
