Interviewing of candidates to fill the vacant position of county engineer began last week and continues into this week, according to county administrator Ralph Mitchell.
Five candidates have so far been identified and scheduled for interviews. All are qualified for the job and have previous experience either as a county engineer in another county or as an assistant county engineer, Mitchell said. Two are Blount County natives, he added.
“All candidates are well-qualified and experienced in the job,” Mitchell said. “I think it’s going to be a challenge for the commissioners to figure out which one is the best fit for the job.”
Mitchell said the job will remain open to applications through the end of March. Any others wishing to apply for the job may send their application to Ralph Mitchell, Blount County Commission, 220 2nd. Ave. East, Room 106, Oneonta, Al 35121.
Richard Spraggins, the former county engineer, resigned after more than 35 years in the job. His resignation was a one-sentence letter received by Commission Chairman David Standridge on Feb. 6, designating the effective date as Feb. 29.
