County health services varied

The ongoing transformation of the old vacated Blount Memorial Hospital will be the program topic of the county-city Chamber of Commerce breakfast next Wednesday morning at 7:30 at Twin Oaks at Heritage.

The program, which begins at 7:30, will feature members of the Blount County Health Care Authority, which superseded the Blount County Hospital Board, and others involved in the renovation.

Wendell Ellis, Blount County native who returned home upon retiring, is authority chairman. Serving with him are Sarah Holt, Becky McGowan, Gene Wadkins, Jeff Hallmark, Charles Wisdom, Ramey Peters, Don Jones, and Sara Holloway.

The authority’s holdings are considerable and diverse. It owns and leases the new hospital to St. Vincent’s Health System, the building occupied by Blount County Health Department, The Gym, and the Family Services Mall to Hope House.

It provides funding for Blount County Mental Health offices, two Blount County school nurses, a juvenile mental health counselor and case manager, Hope House, Children’s Center, and volunteer fire departments.

The Hornets’ Nest restaurant, located in Locust Fork and owned by Freddie West, will sponsor the breakfast. The renovated restaurant is located on Ala 79, across from Locust Fork High School.

The public is welcome to attend the breakfast.
