Christmas tree lightings

Oneonta – In an inaugural season-inspired event, the city of Oneonta will host a Christmas tree lighting. As of now, the city is searching for the biggest tree they can find to place near the downtown gazebo. No time or date has been set for the event but is expected to be announced some time after Thanksgiving.

Blountsville – Immediately following the parade, on Dec. 5, a Christmas tree lighting is scheduled at the Blountsville Town Hall. In the past, the downtown stores have remained open for the event and served soups and snacks to the public. The town hall will also serve cocoa, coffee, and apple cider during the event.

Cleveland – On Dec. 6 at 6 p.m., the town of Cleveland will host its annual “Christmas in the Park,” during which a Christmas tree lighting and decorating will take place at the Cleveland Town Park. Refreshments will be served, entertainment will be provided, and Santa will be available for pictures. Donations of canned goods and toys will be collected. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the event will take place in the fire hall.

Highland Lake – A Christmas tree lighting, followed by a Christmas dinner, will be Sunday, Dec. 7, at 5 p.m., at the Highland Lake anchor.

Christmas Lights in the Park

Palisades Park will once again host “Christmas Lights in the Park,” beginning Dec. 1 and continuing through Dec. 31. Vehicles can drive through the park, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., and experience thousands of lights with 55 entries decorated by the public. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will also be available at the Quilters Cottage for pictures on Dec. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, and 20. Donations will be accepted, and the park will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.

Breakfast with Santa

The Hayden High School Band welcomes everyone to “Breakfast with Santa” on Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m., at the Hayden Elementary School. Waffle House is set to provide the food, and Santa will arrive at 8 a.m. Visitors can get breakfast for $5 and a picture with Santa will also cost $5.

Oneonta Holiday Decorating Contest

For the second year, the Oneonta Business Association is hosting a Holiday Decorating Contest, which means many shops around the city are decorated in hopes of being named the winner. Take a stroll, or a ride, though the downtown and surrounding area for lots of Christmas decorations and shopping.
