The Cleveland Town Council met for its regular monthly meeting on June 11.
Mayor Jerry Jones announced the sealed bids for construction of restroom facilities at the new park had been opened earlier in the day. Two bids were received, one from Adams Building Company for $70,800 and the other from Jerry Tidwell Construction for $81,964. The council unanimously voted to award the contract to the lowest bidder.
Jones reminded the council and anyone interested in the upcoming municipal elections that qualifying begins on July 7 and ends July 21. Election day is Aug. 25. He also told the council they are searching for two additional poll workers for the municipal election.
The mayor informed the council that the park board is working on nominations for two new members, and they will bring them to the council once finalized. He also said board members are working on the process to refund money to organizations unable to play games this year because the park was closed for an extended period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The council is made up of Jones, councilmen Doug Hill, Tommy Swindle, Sherry White, James Bynum, and James Sullivan. Swindle was absent. The council meets the second Thursday of every month, at 7 p.m., at the town hall.
The meeting was held in person, but was also streamed on Facebook Live. The council agreed to continue the use of Facebook Live for the foreseeable future in order for the public to view meetings. Jones said if anyone does attend future meetings, social distancing practices will be maintained for the safety of the council members, employees, and the public.
