In last week’s article on the Blountsville Town Council meeting, it was reported that councilman Dennis Beavers stated “the action by the council in the business meeting is not reflected in the minutes of that meeting.” The Blount Countian requested minutes from the meeting he referenced. The minutes of the May 20, 2019, meeting, do contain council action regarding the resolution in question.
The minutes state, “Mayor Glass presented Resolution #2019-052019-01-R seeking an Attorney General’s opinion asking if council member Beavers can continue to serve as a council member; who was also appointed by the President of the United States to serve as Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency for the State of Tennessee. The question being, is it a violation of Section 280 of the Constitution of the State of Alabama and/or Title 36-2- 1(b) of the Code of Alabama for council member Beavers to serve simultaneously in both positions. Council member Smith made a motion to adopt Resolution #2019-052019-01-R as read and presented. The motion was seconded by council member Cornelius and carried with individual voice votes recorded as follows: council member Smith, yea; council member Cornelius, yea; council member Irvin, yea; council member Mullins, yea; Mayor Glass, yea.”
