Corner woman indicted on murder charges

A Corner woman has been arrested on a murder charge in connection to the shooting death of her ex-husband in 2011, according to Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey.

Elsie Thomas was indicted by a Blount County grand jury in connection to the shooting death of Matt Allen.

In January 2011, Allen was shot to death at a house in the 700 block of Shipp Road in western Blount County. The incident was originally determined to be self-defense as it was reported that Allen also had a gun.

Further investigation led to an indictment for murder, said Casey.

Thomas was jailed in the Blount County Correctional Facility but has since been released on $60,000 bond.
