In 1955, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. It was signed into law on Aug. 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.

This week is a great time to learn more about the Constitution and celebrate the freedoms it gives. The local Warrior Rivers Chapter of DAR invites the public to visit the Constitution displays in the Blount County Museum and the Oneonta Public Library.

The goals of the local Warrior Rivers Chapter are to teach the public about the historical events surrounding the establishment of the Constitution and the men who framed the document, teach all citizens, especially youth, about the founding documents, and inspire the community to protect and defend the Constitution.
