BLOUNT COUNTY SCHOOLS invite preschoolers 3 to 5 and their parents to attend an 11-week series of classes named Kid Crafters. This program will teach the children skills they need when entering kindergarten and train the parents on how to reinforce these skills at home. All materials are provided. Classes will be held on 11 consecutive Tuesdays OR Wednesdays, starting Sept. 7 OR Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Blount County Resource Center in Cleveland. At least one parent, grandparent, or guardian is required to accompany each preschooler and attend a training session while the child is engaged in pre-kindergarten activities. (put “Kid Crafters” in subject line). Kid Crafters is offered free of charge to children living in Blount County and outside the city limits of Oneonta.

NEELY PLAYHOUSE THEATER is holding free open auditions for a Christmas play to be performed Dec. 17, 18, and 19. Auditions for everyone – children and adults – will be Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. Rehearsals will begin Sept. 7. For more information, call 274-7529.

BLOUNTSVILLE HARVEST FESTIVAL Plans are underway now for the Oct. 9 homecoming and harvest festival in Blountsville, which is participating in Alabama’s Great Homecoming emphasizing small towns and downtowns. Blountsville will unveil a new monument at the old town square during the event, and as usual, there will be entertainment, food, vendors’ goods, information and civic booths, car show, tractor show, parade, children’s activities, business decoration contest, politicians, and the opportunity to become reacquainted with old friends.
