Jan. 4 was a special day for Sherry Coe. On this day she began her retirement after a 27-year career with Otelco.
Coe joined the Otelco team in 1991 with intentions of it being a temporary job. She has a degree in education and, at that time, sought employment “to fill a gap” until the Department of Education was no longer in proration.
That temporary job turned out to be a position she loved, and she never looked back. Coe said, “I never dreamed I would have had been afforded the opportunity to advance.”
During her career, she held several positions within the company, including 18 years as a customer service representative, eight years as general manager of commercial sales and marketing in the Alabama market, and two years as director of customer service for the entire Otelco Telephone Company in Alabama, Missouri, and Maine.
Coe has seen many changes in the telecommunication field during her career. The industry has developed from simple telephone service using copper lines to a more complex array of services using fiber optics.
Coe wants everyone to know that she worked with a fantastic group of employees, and said, “It was exciting, and challenging at times, to keep abreast of the fast-paced changes in the industry. With that being said, I am ready to sit back, relax, and let someone else carry the torch into the next generation of technological advancement.”
With this newfound freedom, Coe plans to travel as she has opportunity and enjoy her family. She has been married to Harold for 46 years, and they have two sons and six grandchildren.
