Cleveland High School will host the annual Coaches vs Cancer Classic this Saturday, Dec. 12.
Seven games will be played with proceeds from the event going to the American Cancer Society.
Eight schools will take part with both girls and boys games to be played.
Three county schools will be involved with Locust Fork and Oneonta joining the hosts in the one-day event.
The games start at 11 a.m. with a pair of 4A programs playing. The Corner girls will face Alexandria in the first game followed by the Corner and Alexandria boys meeting at 12:30.
The Locust Fork girls will be the first county school to play as they are scheduled to meet Cordova at 2 p.m.
The Locust Fork boys will take on North Sand Mountain at 3:30 p.m.
The 5 p.m. game might be the best of the day as a pair of highly-ranked 2A girls teams meet. Cold Springs is the two-time defending state champion and Tammy West’s team finished 34-1 a year ago. One of their toughest games of the regular season was a 59-44 win over Michael Wilborn’s North Sand Mountain team in last year’s Coaches vs Cancer Classic. Those two teams will meet this year with Cold Springs again ranked No. 1 and North Sand Mountain coming in at No. 4.
The final two games of the evening have host Cleveland facing Oneonta in a girls game at 6:30 followed by the boys at 8 o’clock. The schedule: 11 a.m. – Alexandria vs Corner (girls) 12:30 p.m. – Alexandria vs Corner (boys) 2 p.m. – Locust Fork vs Cordova (girls) 3:30 p.m. – Locust Fork vs North Sand Mountain (boys) 5 p.m. – Cold Springs vs North Sand Mountain (girls) 6:30 p.m. – Cleveland vs Oneonta (girls) 8 p.m. – Cleveland vs Oneonta (boys)
