The Cleveland Panthers rolled up more than 300 rushing yards and controlled the ball for most of the night to take care of Ider 33-12 in front of a big homecoming crowd last Friday night.
Peyton Gilliland had another big night for the Panthers, finishing with 200 yards rushing and four touchdowns on 21 carries and completing 5 of 12 passing for 59 yards and a score.
Gilliland had touchdown runs of 19 and 58 yards in the first quarter to give the Panthers a 12-6 lead after one quarter. He tacked on a 6-yard scoring run in the second quarter and the Panthers took a 19-6 lead to the locker room.
Gilliland scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter and fired a 6-yard touchdown pass to John Michael Lauderdale in the fourth quarter.
The Panther defense held Ider to just 273 total yards, led by Lauderdale’s 11 tackles. Leo Calderon and Tray Owens had 10 stops each.
Eric Faulkner had six tackles and recovered a fumble.
Brett Erwin had 90 yards on 20 carries. Lauderdale caught three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown and Caleb Corder had two receptions for 12 yards.
Cleveland (7-1, 5-1 in 2A Region 7) travels to Gaston this week and could secure second place in the region with a win.
