The Cleveland Panthers rolled up almost 550 yards of offense in a 54-24 blasting of visiting Sumiton Christian last Friday night.
Cleveland got a 19-yard touchdown run by Trevor Yates to take a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Sumiton Christian responded with a screen pass that went for 90 yards and a score to tie the game but the Panthers answered quickly.
Chas Cornelius scored on an 8-yard run and then hit Thomas Horton on a 67-yard bomb to give the home team a 21-7 lead after one quarter.
Sumiton Christian got a field goal in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-10 but the Panthers got a 13- yard pass from Cornelius to Horton just before the half to take a 27-10 lead to the break.
The Panthers turned the lights out on the visitors in the third period with 14 unanswered points.
Cornelius hit Matt Rush for a 48-yard touchdown and later on in the period hit Yates on a 32-yard toss to increase the Cleveland lead to 41-10 after three quarters.
Each team scored twice in the final period with Cleveland getting a 29-yard touchdown pass from Cornelius to Logan Self and a 28-yard touchdown run by Christian Collum.
The Panthers piled up 541 yards of total offense – 247 on the ground; 294 through the air.
Cornelius had a sensational night with 118 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and a very efficient 9 of 16 though the air for 294 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.
Collum added 62 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries and Yates had 44 yards and a touchdown on just six attempts.
Horton caught five passes for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Yates caught three passes for 60 yards and a score.
Cleveland will be on the road this week for a big region game with Tanner.
