Cleveland police officer injured in wreck

Part-time Cleveland police officer and Highland Lake chief of police Scott Kon was injured Sunday when his police car hit a culvert, flipped, and came to rest in the Cleveland Auto Parts parking lot on Ala 231, according to Cleveland Mayor Jerry Jones.

“He is recovering in the hospital, but he told Cleveland Fire Chief Steve Pass that he does have a hairline fracture in his back,” Jones said. “He’s banged up, but from his indication, he’s going to be all right.”

On Monday, Kon was still hospitalized.

The cause of the accident has not been determined, and, as of Monday, Kon had not been questioned in the matter. Jones said the incident happened while Kon was responding to another vehicle accident.

No other vehicle was involved in the wreck.
