The Cleveland Panthers – ranked No. 3 in Class 2A – delighted a big homecoming crowd by blasting Section 64-22 last Friday night.
Cleveland got on the board early when Peyton Gilliland hit Evan Faust with an 8-yard touchdown pass.
Section answered on the ensuing possession with an 83-yard touchdown run but Cleveland got touchdown runs of 27 and 60 yards from Gilliland and a 26-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Collum to Faust to lead 29-6 after one quarter.
Cody Blackwood picked up a Section fumble and returned it 31 yards for a score and Collum broke loose and rambled 28 yards for another score in the second quarter and the Panthers led 43-20 after two quarters.
Nick Randolph returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and Andrew Green had touchdown runs of 36 and 53 yards to close out the scoring.
Cleveland 413 yards of offense – 371 on the ground – while Section managed 310 yards.
Ten Panthers registered carries in the game. Gilliland had 93 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just three carries while Green had 89 yards and two scores on just four attempts.
Faust caught two passes – both for touchdowns – for 32 yards.
Collum led the Cleveland defense with 12 tackles. Nathaniel Watson had 10 stops while Nathan Stephens had eight and Parker Gilliland had seven. Blackwood and Zachary Watson had fumble recoveries.
Cleveland (7-0 overall, 5-0 in 2A Region ) travels to Ider (4-3, 1-3) this week.
