City schedules work session to meet with school board

The Oneonta City Council has scheduled a work session following its regular July 12 meeting to meet with the Oneonta Board of Education.

Though not specified on the city’s agenda, the purpose is presumably to resume the dialogue begun earlier this year between the city and the school board concerning the the board’s request for additional funding from the city.

Oneonta City Schools Superintendent Michael Douglas said the school board has been notified of the meeting. Asked if he was looking forward to the meeting, he replied, “Well…sure. We look forward to working with them. We’ve made a request – more than one really – we think we’ve got the support of the people for it, and we’re just waiting to continue the discussion.”

City manager Ed Lowe told The Blount Countian the meeting was scheduled in the aftermath of an Alabama Communities of Excellence exercise
