City offers pickup for large trash

Every Wednesday, the city of Oneonta picks up large trash items citizens leave along the side of the street. “You can call in as a resident and tell us about your couch, refigerator, or other large item you need rid of, and we will come pick it up for you,” said city manager Ed Lowe. Lowe emphasizes that city residents must call in order for their items to be picked up. A list is made of places the city needs to pick up beforehand, so if a resident needs something picked up on Wednesday, Lowe encourages calling a few days ahead. “Generally, we can work the whole lot in a day,” he said. “I think we need to re-educate the public that this is a homeowner’s service.” This service is not for businesses or contracters. Dumping trash on the side of a city street is against the law. For more information on the city pickup service, call 274 – 2150. -Nicole Singleton
