Last week, officials unveiled the City of Oneonta’s plans for a local artisanal food market to be held in downtown Oneonta by the gazebo. Inspired by Birmingham’s Pepper Place Market, Oneonta’s City Market will offer local farmers, specialty food vendors, and makers of artisanal items the opportunity to show off.
The first City Market is set for Saturday, May 22, with 17 vendors already booked. Oneonta Mayor Richard Phillips said they will accept between 25 and 30 vendors.
“I think it’s beyond time that we offer locals the opportunity to showcase their products right here at home. Many Blount County farms and vendors go to places like Pepper Place and I want them to have a place like that here.
“The intent is to create a fun environment for residents to find local fare and promote our local businesses. Downtown is a beautiful setting and while they are here for the Market, we hope they’ll shop downtown and all over Oneonta.”
