Chase leads to arrest

A report from a motorist Monday of a probably intoxicated driver led to a police chase – both on the road and in the woods.

In the end, an Oneonta man is in the Blount County Correctional Facility charged with resisting arrest and failure to pay child support.

Blount County deputy Mark Moon was in the area south of Allgood when the report came in Monday of a reckless driver. Moon followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over but the driver increased speed and turned off Ala 75 onto county road 1.

The driver left the vehicle and went into the woods around the Cornelius Trailer Park. Moon followed the suspect and, with assistance from Oneonta police officer Jonathan Ledbetter and his K-9 partner Negao, found the suspect lying in a ditch.

The male driver is being held in Blount County while one of the two female passengers is being held in Jefferson County on a previous charge (and will face a charge of marijuana possession in relation to the Monday incident). A second female passenger was released.
