Your attention please! Notify your automatic pilot that an important feature of the Oneonta landscape is moving: the Blount County-Oneonta Chamber of Commerce office. Long nestling like a hospitable buffer zone between law offices across Ala 75 from the county courthouse, the next time you look – POOF! – it’ll be gone. It’s moving to the old, restored L&N depot at the Oneonta Recreation Park.
Assistant chamber director Aimee Wilson, left, was orchestrating the move last week. The chamber will occupy the end of the depot located next to the big baseball field, in space donated by Oneonta and being converted to two rambling offices. First day of business at the new location will be the first day of business of the new year: Jan. 2.
Besides being more economical, providing easier parking access, and more spacious meeting accommodations, the move places the office in an authentic historical setting consistent with tourism promotion, one of the Chamber’s several missions. Stay tuned: the Chamber plans some other changes that promise to get you in a whole new groove in the coming year. But give’em a break. One thing at a time: let’em get settled in their new digs first. – Ron Gholson
