The top of 1A Region 5 is absolutely loaded and Appalachian found that out again last Friday night as Talladega County Central rolled to a 37-7 victory over the visiting Eagles.
The Tiger defense has gotten better each week and Appalachian struggled to get anything going on the night, finishing with just 135 yards of total offense.
Trey Calvert had a solid game with 70 yards on the ground and Jasper Hutchens added 12 yards rushing.
The Tiger secondary is probably the strength of the team and the Eagle receivers had lots of trouble finding room.
Hutchens completed 4 of 17 passes for 26 yards, including a 5-yard toss to Alex Bynum for the Eagles’ only points.
Roberto Hernandez had two receptions for 22 yards.
Gavin Koger, Payton Dean, and Andrew Whittington led the Eagle defense with four tackles each. Whittington also had a tackle for loss.
Appalachian (1-6) will travel to Meek (4-3) for a nonregion game this week.
