CHARLES KING After a life well lived, Charles Elwyn “Ebb” King, peacefully passed away July 21, 2020, at his home on Berry Mountain near Oneonta. He was 81 years of age. Charles was born in Blount County on Sept. 8, 1938, to the late James Nathaniel and Edna Camille Ritchie King. He was a 1956 graduate of Cleveland High School and later worked with Alabama Power Company for 30 years. He loved his job and made many lifelong friends along the way. In 1972, he married Frances “Kay” Hardwick from Pell City and they enjoyed 48 happy years together.
Charles is survived by his wife Kay Hardwick King; brother Jim E. (Redena) King; sister Linda Gail (Johnny) Witt; brother-in-law Bill (Judy) Hardwick; nephews Preston Shane (Melanie) Witt, and James Landon King; niece Stacy Witt (Jamie) Beard; great-nephews Micah, Eli, Drew, and Lincoln Beard; great-nieces Stephanie Witt (Thomas) Duke and Savannah Beard.
Charles was a lifelong member of Dailey’s Chapel Independent Methodist Church, which he loved dearly. The family gives special thanks to Encompass (formerly Alacare), AMADA Senior Care in Birmingham, and their many excellent caregivers, including most recently Hope Holt and Vanessa Martin. All of these wonderful people seem like family now.
Visitation for all was held at Dailey’s Chapel Church on Thursday, July 23, at 10 a.m. Funeral service for the family was held following at the church, at 11 a.m., with Bro. Randy Hale, Bro. Jamie Beard, and Bro. David Shearrer officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Dailey’s Chapel Cemetery Fund at 3919 Ebell Road, Oneonta, AL 35121. Lemley Funeral Home directed.
