BUMON JOE PRUETT, 98, Walnut Grove, died Feb. 6, 2021, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1922, he graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1940 and Auburn University. He enjoyed a 27-year career as a mechanical technician with NASA, working on the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and space shuttle projects. He holds two patents and earned numerous NASA awards before retirement in 1990. He then raised cattle with his sons for 30 years. He was an avid fan of Walnut Grove and Auburn athletics and served with Boys Scouts, PTA, and Methodist and other church activities. Predeceasing him were wife of 42 years Jewell Corene Thompson Pruett; parents Venie Joe and Lillie Osborn Pruett; daughter Teresa Pruett McArthur; grandson Mark Pruett; and siblings James Dean Pruett, Euthema Pruett Kornegay, Eloise Pruett Jimmerson, and Orvel Pruett.
Surviving are children Stanley (Carolyn) Pruett, Charles “Charlie” (Kay) Pruett, Rex (Lee) Pruett; son-in-law Eddie McArthur; grandchildren William “Mac” (Karla) McArthur, Julie McArthur Sizemore, Jill (Josh) Woods, John (Danica) Pruett, Allan (Jennifer) Pruett, Terry (Frank) Jennings; great-grandchildren Marcy Copeland, Savannah Sizemore, Casey Woods, Lola Woods, Amanda Pruett, Samuel Pruett, Andrew Pruett, Austin Pruett, Emma Pruett; many nieces and nephews.
Jerry McCright and Brigit Dowdy officiated the 1 p.m. service held Feb. 9 at the Chapel of Snead Funeral Home. Burial followed at Altoona/Walnut Grove Cemetery with grandsons and great-grandsons Mac McArthur, John Pruett, Allan Pruett, Austin Pruett, Samuel Pruett, and Andrew Pruett serving as pallbearers.
