The Susan Moore Bulldogs built a 28-6 lead and then held off the Sylvania Rams 34-27 last Friday night at Sylvania to pick up a huge 3A Region 6 victory.
Sylvania scored first but the Bulldogs got a touchdown run from John Evatt (2 yards) in the first quarter and a pair of short touchdown runs (6 and 2) from Justin Hawkins to lead 21-6 at the half.
Hawkins hit Jose Diaz with a 31-yard scoring toss early in the third quarter and then later found Evatt with a 2-yard pass for the Bulldogs final score later in the quarter.
Hawkins was sensational, completing 18 of 26 for 207 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and rushing for 114 yards and a pair of scores on 13 carries.
Diaz caught eight passes for 98 yards and a score Evatt, Joshia Witt, and Cody Sanders caught three passes each.
The Bulldog defense limited the Rams to 122 yards rushing on 39 attempts but gave up 215 yards through the air.
Flavio Guerrero had 16 tackles while Victor Estrada had 11.
Susan Moore forced three turnovers with Evatt and Hugo Hernandez collecting interceptions and Kyle Fancher recovering a fumble. Fancher and Cody Alldredge had sacks.
Susan Moore improved to 4-2 overall, 3-1 in 3A Region 6. Sylvania dropped to 4-2 overall, 3-1 in the region.
