After slow starts the past two weeks, the Susan Moore Bulldogs hoped to reverse that trend against the Vinemont Eagles last Thursday.
The Bulldogs got the spark they needed when running back Derek Doty broke free for a 21-yard touchdown. In just 2:13, Susan Moore was on top 7-0 as Axel Silva kicked the ball through the uprights for the extra point.
The Bulldog offense, however, struggled to find that rhythm again as they eventually fell victim to another region rival by a score of 7-21.
Doty’s 78 yards on the ground was just shy of the team’s total offense of 115 yards. Camden Lackey completed only two of his eight passes for 14 yards.
Susan Moore’s defense was led by Nick Calderon and Tanner Nolen who ended the night with eight tackles apiece. Jose Calderon recorded seven tackles while Zach Smith finished with six. Cody Hayes recovered a fumble, the game’s only turnover.
The loss drops Susan Moore to 2-5 and 2-3 in region play. After three straight road games, the Bulldogs finally return home Friday to Larry “Pod” Patterson Field where they will host the 2-6 Holly Pond Broncos who are 1-4 in region play.
