Bulldogs best Tigers in overtime

After four hard-fought quarters, the J.B. Pennington Tigers and the visiting Susan Moore Bulldogs went at it back and forth, but Susan Moore came out on top in a thrilling overtime victory, besting the Tigers 28-21.

Susan Moore began strong with quarterback Andrew McEvoy hitting Richo Findley (two catches for 31 yards), with a 25-yard touchdown pass during their first possession. Susan Moore held the Tigers for the first quarter, but Pennington came back during the second quarter with touchdowns from Sheldon Blythe and Jaxon Bullard. Susan Moore’s McEvoy answered back with a touchdown run, ending the half 14-14.

During the third quarter, a 20-yard touchdown pass from McEvoy to Tanner Sisson (four catches for 44 yards) gave the Bulldogs the lead until the fourth quarter, when Blythe evened the score again for the Tigers on a four-yard touchdown run and good PAT, tying the game at 21-21. In overtime play, Anthony Cervantes (17 carries for 121 yards) sealed the deal for the Bulldogs with a nine-yard touchdown run and Jesus Aguilar continued his perfect PAT streak, hitting all four extra points for the Bulldogs.

 

 

The Bulldogs rushed for 192 yards over 39 plays, with Cervantes racking up 121 of those yards. McEvoy rushed for 41 yards and connected eight of 11 times for 87 yards. Defensively, Susan Moore’s Gavin Harper had seven tackles and one sack, Caleb Bailey had five tackles and one interception, and Matthew Clowdus had nine tackles.

The Bulldogs face Sylvania this Friday in Susan Moore for their first home game of the season and J.B. Pennington will travel to Hanceville.
