At approximately 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, the Snead Police Department was called to Veteran’s Memorial Bridge on Ala 75 after a pedestrian walking on the bridge spotted a body below and contacted authorities. Snead Police Chief Steve Gunn stated that officers arrived and found an approximately 30-year-old white male deceased below the bridge.
The scene was processed by investigators from the Snead Police Department, Blount County Sheriff’s Office, and Blount County Coroner’s office. The body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science’s Huntsville facility for an autopsy.
Monday morning, Gunn stated that the male had been positively identified as Joshua E. Millwood, 30, of Cullman. He reported that an autopsy was performed by the ADFS on Friday, Oct. 23, with representatives of both the Snead Police Department and Blount County Sheriff’s Office in attendance.
“The preliminary findings of the autopsy were that all of Mr. Millwood’s injuries were consistent with a fall from a 40-plus feet elevation,” according to a statement released by the SPD. Gunn said the autopsy showed that Millwood did not have any kind of injuries that would suggest foul play. The final autopsy report will be released upon the completion of toxicology tests.
In its press release, the Snead Police Department extended “condolences to the family of Mr. Millwood and would ask the community to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
