Body found in burned-out house on Moman Road

Authorities have confirmed a body was found in a burned-out house on Moman Road in the Snead area Saturday night. According to Blount County Coroner John Mark Vaughn, the body has been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy and official identification.

Snead Fire Department received the call at approximately 9:30 p.m., according to Chief Lee Netherton, and firefighters remained on the scene late into the morning hours.

No cause for the fire has been announced, and according to Netherton, an investigation by the Alabama State Fire Marshal, the Blount County District Attorney’s Office, and the Blount County Sheriff’s Department is underway.

Netherton said four fire departments responded to the fire – Snead, Susan Moore, Brooksville, and Nixon Chapel.
