Board approves band camp payments, awards McAfee

The Blount County Board met for its regular business meeting Monday and approved superintendent’s recommendations for the summer and the upcoming school year. It also presented board member Bruce McAfee an award for 50 years of dedicated service to Blount County Schools (photo). The board approved superintendent’s recommendations to:

• pay the following individuals to work with high school bands during band camp this summer, with instructors named to be paid from each school’s band booster funds: Cleveland High School – Dr. Charles Conaway ($400); Lorri Caitlyn Williamson ($700); Ashton Clemons ($600); and Meghan Morphis ($300); Hayden High School – Paris Whittaker ($1,000); Gretchen Moore ($800); William Rawson ($800); Chandler Howard ($800); Jackson Brunner ($800); and Rebecca Long ($500); Locust Fork High School – Tyler Poe ($500); Olivia Osario ($750).

• pay the following band instructor assistants at Susan Moore High School for summer band camp and the 2018-2019 school year from the school’s band booster funds: Holly Winfrey ($850) and Anna Cline ($650).

• authorize a field trip for Susan Moore High School varsity football team to Jacksonville State University football camp, July 11-12.

• accept the resignations of: Michelle Moss Strickland, Hayden High School teacher, Joseph Whited, Cleveland Elementary School principal, and Jada Tolbert, kindergarten teacher at Appalachian, all effective July 2.

• allow Cleveland High School to enter rental agreement with Loft 212 LLC for the 2018-2019 prom, to be paid from school’s local funds.

• amend authorization resolution for the Blount County Board of Education to grant power to perform banking services to employees of the board; documentation on file in superintendent’s office.

• allow Elizabeth Grace Smith, 16, to transfer to the Jefferson County School System during the 2018-2019 school year, with Blount County BOE to assume no liability for the release.

• allow Kasei Lei Gulley, 17, to transfer to the Birmingham City School System during the 2018-2019 school year, with Blount County BOE to assume no liability for the release.

• employ Amber Nicole Gullo as a Child Nutrition Program employee at Hayden Middle School beginning Aug. 2, contingent on background clearance through the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE).

• employ Jamie Erin Mullins as an elementary teacher at Hayden Elementary School beginning Aug. 6.

• employ Dana Weeks Ellison as an elementary teacher at Cleveland Elementary School beginning Aug. 6.

• employ John Michael Lauderdale as a special education aide at the Blount County Learning Center beginning Aug. 8, contingent on background clearance through ALSDE.

• employ Sarah Emily Smith as an English/Language Arts teacher at Hayden High School beginning Aug. 6.

• employ Kelly Marie Woodard as a special education aide at Appalachian High School beginning Aug. 8, contingent on passing work keys scores.

• enter into a letter of engagement with Bradley, Arant, Boult & Cummings LLP to provide legal services for an application to register and protect the Blount County Schools branding logo as a service mark with the state of Alabama.

• contract with Alabama Pediatric Therapy Services for speech therapy to preschool children at Ratchford Head Start and church daycare facilities in the Blount County school district beginning Aug. 1, 2018, and ending May 25, 2019 – to be paid from IDEA Part B and/or general fund.

• contract with Rynthia McCoy to provide achievement/ developmental evaluations for special education beginning Aug. 1, 2018, and ending May 31, 2019 – to be paid at $40 per evaluation from IDEA Part B and/or general fund.

• contract with Tina Wynn to provide homebound services to a J. B. Pennington High School student beginning Aug. 9, 2018, and ending May 23, 2019 – to be paid at the board-approved rate from IDEA Part B or general fund.

• contract with Cynthia Ann Dougherty as a bus driver for summer Dreamcatcher camps – to be paid $100 per day from Title 1 C–FY18 funds.

• pay Crystal Aycock, information systems specialist at the Blount County Learning Center, to work up to five additional days during the summer of 2018 – to be paid from the school’s local funds.

• pay $150 to the Alabama Association of School Boards legal assistance funds for the 2018-2019 school year.

• allow Sarah Lauderdale to drive the school bus for sporting events and extracurricular activities for Susan Moore High School.
