Coinciding with April’s National Child Abuse Prevention month, the Blount County Children’s Center has planned their biggest fundraiser of the year on April 25 at Oneonta’s World Outreach Center.
Jim Ed Clayton, executive director said, “Here at the Children’s Center, we rely on grants and United Way funding, but we would not exist without the financial support of individuals in the community. We don’t spend a lot of time asking folks for donations, but once a year, we host the Blue Ribbon Dinner and our big prize drawing. The funds we raise from this event helps us to conduct child abuse prevention programs with thousands of students, and to provide victim support services to children and their caregivers throughout the year.”
According to Clayton, people are often reluctant to attend the dinner because they fear it will have horrific stories and pictures of child abuse victims.
This is not the case.
Clayton wants people to understand, “It’s fun and light-hearted. It’s entertainment, but it’s also an opportunity to raise money and thank the people for their support through their donations, prayers and caring about the work we do.”
This year’s Blue Ribbon Dinner will be an evening jam-packed with great food, fun, music, humor, and big prize giveaways, yet still supporting a worthwhile cause. In addition to great food by Lee Alexander and Charlie Bottcher, award winning Three on a String will provide the evening’s entertainment.
Individual tickets for this fun-filled event are $40. A table of eight can be purchased for $300. Prize tickets are $5 each and you do not have to be present to win.
If you would like to purchase tickets or make a donation, contact the Blount County Children’s Center at 274-7226. Tickets can also be purchased from any board member.
