Mayor Randy Millwood announced at the Blountsville Town Council meeting there are four town boards withaatotalof17vacanciesthat should be filled as soon as possible: the Planning Commission, three; Zoning & Variance, six; Park and Rec, three; and Industrial Development, three. Citizens living within town limits are eligible to serve on these boards, and interested residents are urged to contact the town hall for more information.
An update on the 11 local abandoned property owners, recently served with code violation notices, was given. The mayor noted that several of those property owners have made contact with the town, and negotiations are underway to resolve the violations. Town attorney Dalton NeSmith has added seven additional properties to the list.
Salaries for the councilmembers serving in the next term was addressed, and the motion was approved to make no changes.
Millwood commended police chief Ray Baxley and his night shift officers for completing a list of all traffic signs and street lights that need repaired. Repairs on the lights has already begun.
Council members attending the Jan. 5 meeting in addition to the mayor were Ken Wilson, Michael Glass, Barry Smith, Ken Mullins, and Marlin Murphree.
Due to the holiday, the next council meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.
