Blountsville schools placed on lockdown after police chase

Last Friday, a police chase forced a lockdown at Blountsville Elementary and J.B. Pennington High School. According to Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington, Blountsville officers stopped a stolen truck on a road behind the elementary school when the driver and passenger fled from the scene.

“Because of the proximity of the situation, the schools went into a lockdown as a precautionary measure,” Arrington said.

Attempts to reach the Blountsville Police Department, which is investigating the incident, were unsuccessful.

Arrington said he isn’t sure whether the two suspects have been apprehended, but he does know the search was called off at one point. He asked anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 625-4127 or the Blountsville Police Department at 429-3479.
