Blount Springs history book signing set for July 10

Author Greg Burden will be available on July 10 at the Blount County Memorial Museum from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. to discuss his book, ‘Blount Springs – Alabama’s Fountain of Youth.’ The book details Blount Springs history from 1810 – 1935 and includes information on how Davy Crockett came to be one of the first guests. Burden, who has been researching the area for a year, says he first began writing the book in August 2013 and finished in January. The 200-page book also owes its beginnings to a Facebook page created by Mike Tumlin who was hoping to preserve the history of Blount Springs. Tumlin added Burden as an administrator to the page, and the two continued their research together. The book includes photographs and illustrations adding to the story within the pages, and they hope to gather more photos in the future. The book is $20, or can be mailed for $24. Those interested can reserve a book by calling museum curator Amy Rhudy at 625-6905.
