The Blount County Real Estate Network Thursday presented American Red Cross a $1000 to be used for the Heroes Program.
“We are thankful for their donation and it will be put to good use in the county,” said Mike Bates, Red Cross executive director for Blount, Cullman, and Winston counties.
The network sponsored a blood drive in October and sold chances on an iPad, donated by First Federal Mortgage; the proceeds went towards this donation. The program is designed to raise funds to help disaster victims with their needs. With the help of this fundraising program, the Red Cross provides the disaster victims lodging, food, and clothing for three nights and offers referrals for future help.
The Heroes Program is advertised February through March of each year, but donations are always welcome. To become a “hero” in the program, people must commit to try to raise at least $1000.
Along with the Heroes Program and providing for disaster victims, the Red Cross also provides SAF (Service to Armed Forces), blood drives, and CPR training. All Red Cross services are free of charge.
