The hard and time-consuming work to prepare the Bicentennial Edition of the Blount County Heritage Book for publication is nearing an end, according to Blount County Memorial Museum curator Amy Rhudy. The new edition will contain about 200 more pages than the previous one published in 1999. The additional pages will consist of submissions by the community, said Rhudy. “It can be about your family, an individual, yourself, your community or church.” Information about civic groups, businesses and “local lore” are welcome as well. The cost varies by the size of the submission. The prices are:

· Up to 250 words without a photograph is $25.

· 251-500 words with one photograph is $50.

· 501-750 with one photograph is $75.

· One-half “feature” page is $500.

· Full “feature” page is $1,000.

Rhudy has extended the deadline for submissions to July 12. The cost of the book is $75 and pre-orders are being taken. An order form can be found on the museum’s website, Other information about the museum or the Blount County Historical Society can also be found on the site. Visit their Facebook page by searching “Blount County Memorial Museum and Historical Society.”

To help defer the cost of the Heritage Book, the museum is using funds raised by a book sale made possible by an estate library donated by Bob and Faye Pruitt. The books are $2 each and there are hundreds to choose from at the museum.

While Rhudy admits the Heritage Book has been a tremendous undertaking for her and volunteer Laura Roberson, the museum continues to offer its usual services including assistance with genealogical research. Last Thursday, the museum hosted a program for home-schooled Blount County children at no cost to the participants. Summer Stamps led the 8- to 13-year-old group in creating string art.
