The Blount County Board of Education announced yesterday that it will begin a strategic planning process soon involving school system stakeholders to “redefine and refocus our priorities”, and “to make well-informed decisions about the future direction of the school district.”
A strategic planning team will be formed to implement the process, consisting of school employees, parents, students, board members, and representatives of the community. Other stakeholders will be able to provide input through focus group discussions and surveys.
“Used on a regular basis in the private sector for a long time, strategic planning is a common and accepted way to routinely chart a long-term course of action,” the board statement said. The process will result in a vision and desired outcomes defined by the community and district for what the system will become, and contain new ideas to educate students to build upon what the district has already accomplished.
Future announcements will give directions for taking an initial community survey. Community members interested in participating in focus groups should contact Dr. Stoney Beavers at 205-625-4102, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
