BLOUNT COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

Mid-year personnel moves dominate February agenda

The Blount County Board of Education followed the recommendation of Supt. Jim Carr and approved several personnel actions during last week’s meeting.

The board hired Tiffany Ponder, long-term substitute teacher, Blountsville Elementary; Meghan Goss Kilgo, science teacher, Locust Fork High; Nicole Clowdus, kindergarten teacher, Locust Fork Elementary; and Jacquelyn Acton, part-time utility bus driver, Hayden High.

Utility bus driver Joseph Thomas was transferred to fill a driver opening for Hayden schools.

In other business, the board approved a total of five field trips, including an April trip to San Francisco for nine Hayden High journalism students.

Finally, the board approved non-compensated volunteers at Southeastern (Michael Allen Hopkins) and Susan Moore High (Rafael Buenrostro and Vanessa Molina).

Present at the Feb. 4 meeting were board members Bruce McAfee, Jackie Sivley, Chris Latta, Craig Johnson, and William Ferry, Carr, assistant superintendent Rodney Green, board secretary Karla Latham, and visitors.
