The Blount County Board of Education named Bridgette Murphree as principal of Susan Moore Elementary School. Murphree, who was assistant principal at the school, replaces Helen Dunn who was hired into the Cullman County system earlier in August.
In other business, the board acted on the recommendation of Supt. Jim Carr and:
hired Anna Katherine Pettus as teacher at Blountsville Elementary School.
contracted with Lisa Waddle and Renee Dailey to provide homebound services to students. Each will be paid $25 per hour, plus travel reimbursement from the general fund. Total amount of each contract is not to exceed $1500.
approved updating and amending the accounting regulation for schools and the staff development plan for bus shop and maintenance personnel.
contracted with nurses Sonya Boatright (primary nurse), Libby Moon, and Kay Timmerman to provide services at Cleveland High School from Aug. 17, 2011, through July 31, 2012. Each will be paid $25 per hour from the general fund.
awarded the J.B. Pennington copier bid to Riley Business Products Inc. The bid is for a monthly lease of $195.68 and a charge of .0065 cents for each copy over 24,000 per month.
Finally, the board allowed Cleveland High’s varsity cheerleaders to host a youth cheer camp fundraiser after school Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. Participants will be charged $25 each to attend the camp.
Present at the Aug. 18 meeting were board members Gregg Armstrong, Craig Johnson, Bruce McAfee, Jackie Sivley, and Chris Latta, Carr, assistant superintendent Rodney Green, board secretary Karla Latham, and visitors.
The next board meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m.
