As if dealing with an international health pandemic wasn’t bad enough, phone and email scams are rapidly rising.
We had a call earlier this week from a concerned reader who had received a call from someone claiming to be from Medicare. Once they started asking for personal information, she knew it was a scam and hung up. There have been others including one scam that claimed to be Alabama Power also seeking personal information.
Scammers play on the fears of their victims. Please remember that governmental entities (IRS, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security) and companies you do business with (banks, credit card companies, utilities) will not call and ask for your personal information.
ALWAYS hang up immediately as soon as any caller asks for personal information.
