Between the Lines

Spring has sprung in Blount County and I love seeing the dogwoods bloom and porches exploding with color. Spring always adds a little pep-in-your-step with the bright sunshine and warmer temperatures. For years I found myself driving to Birmingham to grab the few flowers and plants I needed to make my home have the “springtime vibe.” Luckily, in recent years I have been able to hop in the car and drive just a few miles to Blackwood Crossings Nursery in Cleveland.

Now, full disclosure…I do not have a green thumb. I always go for the plants that need a lot of sun and not so much water because if I don’t, my yard will look like an abandoned field with dead plants abounding! Lucky for me, Laura at Blackwoods is always kind enough to show me just what I need to keep my house pretty with the least amount of effort.

Blackwoods has also supplied the Oneonta Beautification Board with plant ideas and almost all of the planters you see in Downtown Oneonta came from the nursery. If I am not mistaken, even the Blount County Courthouse relies on Blackwoods for some help with their landscaping.

There are lots of nice places in Blount County where you can find beautiful plants, and I don’t mean to take away from their selections. I have just found Blackwoods to have the widest and most diverse selection for my needs. It’s nice to be able to run by, explain what I need, and in minutes have a trunk load of lovely flowers to brighten my home. Stop in and let Laura help you fix up your flowerbeds just in time for Easter!

Until next time, I hope you find something new here in Blount County. It’s a good old place to call home.
