Best fair ever’

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the folks in and around Blount County who supported this year’s Blount County Fair. From what I hear, this was the best fair ever and that was our goal. Two out of the three variables – weather and a new amusement contractor – were in our favor, and in spite of a down economy we had near record attendance.

I must give credit to our outstanding volunteers who make the Blount County Fair a reality year after year. I am continually amazed at how 19 different organizations throughout the county can come together and give their friends, families, and neighbors such a great show. Anyone associated with the fair knows that the Master Gardeners provide the bulk of the people power for this annual endeavor and my hat is off to them.

The nice folks from Kissel Entertainment provided the best carnival rides, food, and games I have ever seen at a county fair. The Kissel’s professionalism, cleanliness, and safety gave the folks of Blount County the level of fair we deserve and reflect their commitment to customer service.

Thank you to Patti Moss Williams for designing the fair handout and the covers for the tabloid and for going the extra mile by filming opening night and posting it on our website. Of course the Agri- Business Center’s secretary, Joan Epps, deserves all of the credit for organizing the volunteers, the booth layout, and the accounting accuracy. Joan’s energy and untiring efforts kept me going all week and kept the fair running smoothly. Thank you Bill. A special thanks goes to my wife and daughters for their help all week and for their kind understanding and patience and for taking care of things at home. Thank you, Mr. Vance Morton, for running the information booth all FIVE nights.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who sold tickets and to everyone who took the time and effort to set up a booth or exhibit. Finally, congratulations to all the winners of our nightly cash-prize drawing.

If you missed this year’s fair, next year’s fair promises to be even better. I look forward to seeing everyone at other upcoming events and back again next year for the biggest party in Blount County.
